Violet Hannesena is a violinist, sound artist, improviser and audio engineer who invites listeners to connect with our internal messaging, propulsions, desires. They studied at the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in performance and composition.

Grounded in a deep understanding of classical and new music, Violet began learning the violin at age nine and is immersed within the sonorous tunnels and monoliths of long-tone music. Her formative years spent focusing on works by living composers coached by the Kronos Quartet has paved the way for a unique synthesis of folk, electronic, and improvisational sound work. She has performed pieces by Eliane Radigue, Wadada Leo Smith, Marc Sabat, Wolfgang Von Schweinitz, Mel Powell, and Arvo Pärt.

Her own compositional work relies heavily on analog reel-to-reel tape machines, cassette recorders, and their inverse, digital technology. Every presentation of work is a continuation of previous experiments with a continued exploration into microtonality, spirals, and nonlinear systems. She utilizes her acoustics research to inform her sound recordings in churches, caves, tanks, and parking lots. The pairing of stability and changeability that allows for a playground of unveiling capitalistic propensities and the moral passivity of our current zeitgeist is a recurring point of interest.

Violet has performed and presented work at Redcat, Human Resources, Coaxial, New Music on the Point, The Fonda, The Roy O. Disney Theatre Hall, The Troubadour, The Wende Museum, Sunspace, LA Artcore, Oracle Egg, Mayhem (DK), Highways Performance Space and Gallery, and on Dublab Radio. Originally from San Francisco, Battaglia is currently based in Los Angeles, CA.
